reid preached for years that Christians who allowed their children to go to state schools were 'giving their children to the devil to educate'

Why would he emphasise such a message? One could easily be cynical and suggest that it was because reid ran a Christian school and that he was scaring people into paying for their children to go to his school, instead of the free state education! He also talked about the teachers in state schools being 'pink haired lefties'.

Hardly surprising that people would do anything that they could to get their children into peniel! And it was not surprising that people with children in the school would be scared to cross reid in case he threw their children out of the school!
